The Bois de Boulogne is a large tract of wooded ground
about five miles wide, laid out with walks and drives. A
number of trees were cut down during the Revolution,
but when Napoleon chose St. Cloud for his summer
residence, new walks were planted and laid out. It is
now the favourite place of recreation with Parisians of all
classes.
