Hiawatha, founded in 1857, was named after Longfellow's poem
Song of Hiawatha.
The Town Clock, located in downtown Hiawatha, is the only
such clock between Indianapolis and Denver on U.S. Highway
36.
The Courthouse, built in 1925, was dedicated on November 11,
1926. The āVā in COURTHOUSE was used as it was easier to
carve, and because the Stone Mason's alphabet did not contain
the letter āUā at the time of construction.
