Wendell Willkie came to Coffeyville, Kansas, High School
as an instructor from Indiana University in 1914. He was
then known as Louis W. Willkie. He remained in Coffey-
ville a year and came back in 1940 as the Republican
presidential nominee. There is a Wendall Willkie exhibit
in the Dalton Defenders Museum in Coffeyville, and a
Coffeyville street, near where he made one of his principal
campaign speeches in 1940, is named for him.
