America's top jet fighter-interceptor planes, the
F-1045, armed with sidewinder missiles, are part
of the 134th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron of the
Tennessee Air National Guard at McGhee Tyson Air
Base. The base adjoins Knoxville Municipal Airport
at the twin cities of Maryville and Alcoa, Tenn.
The F-104s can intercept enemy planes over Wash-
ington, D. C., in 20 minutes after an alert.
