View of church and graveyard at Jamestown,
Va. (site of the first permanent English Settlement
in America, 1607) showing the famous old tower
and Memorial church in rear, built over the founda-
tions of the first brick church of 1638-39. Inside
may be seen ancient tombs and the foundations of
the smaller church of 1617 in which the first
Legislative Assembly in America was convened on
July 30th, 1619.
The restored church was the gift of the Colonial
Dames of America.
