This official residence of the Chief Executive of 11477
Virginia, completed in 1813 (replacing an old
two-story wooden structure) is still in use.
During "reconstruction days", when Virginia
constituted "Military District No. One", it was
occupied by Gen. Jim Schofield, Military Com-
mander. Here many of the world's notables of
the past and present have been entertained.
