Back:
FORT MACKINAC, Mackinac Island, Mich.
The military post was transfered to this point
in the winter of 1780-1781; its timbers were
brought from the mainland, the stones quarried
on the Island, and limekiln used for making
the lime can still be seen near Ft. Holmes.
The fort was abandoned by the Government
in 1895 and is now in charge of a superin-
tendent appointed by the Michigan State Park
Board.
