The Cabildo
Additional Details:
Erected in 1795 as the seat of the Spanish Government for the Province of Louisiana. Now one of the best historical museums in the US. The gates at the entrance were presented to Louisiana by the Spanish Government and are said to have been made from the iron instruments of torture used in the inquisition days of Spain. On purchase by US the Spanish Coat of Arms over the doorway was replaced by the thirteen stars of the United States. The typical Spanish Colonnade in front adds much to the beauty of the building Curteich-Chicago |
