VALENTINE'S

A conspicuous object on the Thames Embank-
ment. The Obelisk, which is of rose red granite,
originally stood before the Temple of Heliopolis,
otherwise On, the birthplace of Moses.
It was
presented to the British Government in 1820, left
uncalled for till 1877-78, when it was conveyed to
its present position at the expense of Sir Erasmus
Wilson. It was probably designed by Cleopatra.
