The Rotunda, University of Virginia
Additional Details:
Centerpiece of the campus. Designed by Thomas Jefferson, it was first used for a banquet for the Marquis de Lafayette. The interior was largely destroyed in an 1895 fire. Restoration was completed, but not to Jefferson's original plans. Following a detailed restoration in the early 1970s, visitors can once again delight in the architectural genius of the "Sage of Monticello." |
