President Reagan and his wife, Nancy, arrived in Ireland
on June 1, 1984, for a three day visit to the President's
ancestral country. After spending several hours at Ashford
Castle, they traveled to Galway in the north of the country.
The President was made a Doctor of Law honoris causa at
the University of Galway. On Sunday, June 3, 1984, the
President spent several hours in the small village of Bally-
poreen where his great-grandfather was born at the
beginning of the 19th century. The President and Nancy
sipped a beer at the "Ronald Reagan Pub” before leaving
for a small official ceremony. June 1-4, 1984
