In the 1940 Warner Bros. movie “Knute Rockne
- All-American," a young Pat O'Brien portrayed
the famed Notre Dame football coach, Knute
Rockne, and an even younger Ronald Reagan
played the role of star player George Gipp. At
the end of the film, as Gipp lay on his death
bed, Notre Dame was on the verge of being
defeated by the Army team. Rockne called out,
"win one for the Gipper" - a long remembered
famous Pat O'Brien quote. Shown here, 21 years
later, the two are reunited at Notre Dame during
graduation ceremonies. May 17, 1981
