TROMPE L'OEIL, OLD PORT EXCHANGE
This "fake'' building facade was painted on the
Horatio N. Jose Block (1866) by Chris Denison in 1976.
Only five of the windows are real. The bricks, stone-
work, store fronts and even the roof shadows are a
''trompe l'oeil" or "fooling of the eye", designed to
blend in with the rest of the architecture in the Old
Port Exchange. Portland City Hall in background.
