CRANBERRY HARVEST
Each Fall, the cranberry harvest gets underway. Lowland
bogs are flooded; berries knocked from vines with “egg-
beaters”, causing them to float on surface. Berries are load-
ed on trucks by conveyor for transportation to processing
plant near Long Beach, Wash. The first planting of cultivated
cranberries in the state was near here in 1883. Peninsula
growers produce approximately one percent of the west
coast harvest.
