This remarkable wax figure was brought from France
by Capt. Jonathan Coffin of Nantucket in 1796. It
was represented to him to be a portrait of the
Dauphin, Louis Charles, infant son of Louis XVI
and Marie Antoinette. The Dauphin's mysterious
disappearance after the execution of the King and
Queen is matter of history.
