ST. JOSEPH CATHEDRAL
BARDSTOWN, KENTUCKY
Erected 1816-1819 under Bishop Benedict Joseph
Flaget, this is the oldest cathedral west of the
Allegheny Mountains. It contains a rare collection
of famous paintings by Old World Masters,
donated by Louis Philippe, Duke of Orleans, after-
wards King of France. He had visited Bardstown
in 1797 while in exile.
