Jefferson Davis, President of Confederate

gomery, Ala., February 18, 1861.
He was a
native of Kentucky and later a resident of Miss.
issippi. He was a Mexican war hero, U. S.
Secretary of War, and U. S. Senator: His mem-
ory is revered by the people of the South form
