THE VAN CORTLANDT MANOR is a fine, old
historical stone edifice, which is located in the lower part of
Van Cortlandt Park, and dates from 1748. It is now owned
by the city and used as a museum for relics of the Revolution,
being furnished as it might have been in old historic days.
General Washington twice occupied the house, once when
watching the British troops under General Howe, and again
when the war was over, resting here prior to entering the city
on the evacuation of the British Army.
