FORDHAM HOSPITAL. The first public hospital
founded by the city in the Bronx was the Fordham Hospital,
which was established in 1892 on Valentine Avenue near
Kingsbridge Road. In 1898 it was removed to Aqueduct Avenue
and St. James place. On May 11th, 1907, the handsome new
quarters on Crotona Avenue were opened with impressive
ceremonies, the total cost amounting to nearly a million dollars.
There are 150 beds, and the authorities endeavor to care for
all emergency cases in the Bronx above 170th Street.
