COAL DOCKS ALONG THE HARLEM RIVER.
Along the Harlem River, particularly in the vicinity of 138th
Street, are many large coal docks, where thousands of tons of
coal are handled daily. The coal is brought up the river in
barges, and from these hoisted by means of great scoops to
the cars on the elevated road above; from here it is dumped
into the bins.
