INTERIOR OF THE GOLDEN PAVILION
OF JEHOL
In the center background the image of the great
Avalokitecvara smiles serenely down upon
worshippers from its stone table.
The patron
saint of Tibet and protector of its capital, is sup-
posedly reincarnated in the Dalai Lama of Lhasa.
Inside the Temple is a priceless collection of Chinese and
Bouddhist treasures a Clingse guide describes these treasures.
One of the objects is a prayer wheel which the devotees tum instead
of repeating prayers. One time of the wheel is the equivalent of man
million players. There is an interesting temple drum, trumpets
so long that the player requires the devices of an assistant
to hold them up, altar puces, incense burners, masks used
in sacred dances, silver lamps, temple bells and race
conpets.
