These monuments erected
the Gettysburg
Battlefield portray one of the most human interest
stories of this famous battle. The Irish Brigade
composed principally of New Yorkers were ordered
into the battle. Father Corby asked permission
to talk to the men for a few minutes.
It was
granted and he delivered a momentous talk before
pronouncing an absolution for all his men. Im-
mediately thereafter they were commanded to go
into the fight and displayed remarkable service and
fortitude.
