German American Rathskeller. Established 1879, one of the oldest restaurants in New York. GRomercy 5-7623. The 2000 photos of old time notables which surround you at Joe King's German-American (17th St. & 3rd Ave.) would be a fascinating study, if you had the time. But you don't - there's too much gusto in progress - community singing and good looking gals being boy-friended. As for food, it's simple but noble and reliable, Irish Turkey & Cabbage, Schnitzel fo Vienna, Knuckle of Pig, Steak of the Sirloin, Strudel of the Apple, also the best marinated herring these lips have smacked in moons. And - oh yes the finest drinks in town
