ON THE TOMBIGBEE RIVER. The Tom:bigbee
River joins the Alabama River 45 miles above Mobile; from
there it is called the Mobile River. It is an important factor
in the exporting of the vast cotton output of the State, the
cotton belt comprising one-third the total area. Barges and
steamers constantly ply the river laden with cotton.
