OLD WHITE HEAD. One of the most character-
istic sea cliffs, much sought by marine artists. The seaward
extremity of Cushing's Island, three miles across the harbor
from the city. One of the bulwarks which shut out the waves
of the Atlantic from "The Natural Seaport." It rises
abruptly from the sea to a height of 150 feet. No land inter-
venes between this and Europe. 151.
