NEW ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL (the headquarters of the
Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh) was established in 1843,
and, from an architectural standpoint, is one of the most
imposing buildings in Pittsburgh. It is constructed in the
form of a cross and two lofty spires render it conspicuous for
a considerable distance. Connected with the Cathedral is a
school attended by 800 pupils, who are taught by fourteen
Sisters of Mercy.
