Gen. George Rogers Clark landed on
Owen's Island, opposite foot of Kentucky
Avenue, June 28, 1778, enroute to capture

white settlers came in 1821, and in 1827,
Paducah was named for friendly Indian Chief
Paduke, by General William Clark (of the
Lewis and Clark expedition), who was the
second white owner of this land.
