This aerial shows Building One with its famous clock
tower and a cluster of World War I era buildings. Building
One houses the Commandant of the Ninth Naval District
and the Commander of USNTC, Great Lakes. The historic
clock tower – with its carillon - rises 100 feet above Ross
Field. Building One was the first administration building
in use when the base was dedicted by President William
H. Taft in 1911. USNTC is located on Lake Michigan, 35
miles north of downtown Chicago and four miles from
Waukegan.
