Convent of Mary Immaculate, Key West, Florida
Back:
Founded in 1878 and long considered the most beautiful
educational building in Florida, the Convent of Mary im-
maculate has played an heroic part in the history of the city.
It was thrown open as a hospital during the yellow fever
plague and none of the nuns perished with their patients.
During the Spanish-American War it again became a hospi-
tal and its interesting museum is enriched by many gifts
from grateful patients. The grounds are a treasure-trove to
botanists.
