DORSET SWANAGE, DORSET: Old and new meet in Swanage, a
beautifully situated resort with a background of history.
Favourite spots are Peveril Point at the southern extremity
of the bay and Tilly Whim Caves, also the Lighthouse on
Anvil Point. Boating, bathing and paddling are particularly
good here, for the tides in the bay ebb and flow almost
imperceptibly. A walk over Ballard Down to Studland
gives splendid views of Poole Harbour. Nearby is Corfe
Castle, a Norman stronghold.
