BARNSTAPLE: It is among the oldest boroughs in
the British Isles, and is situated in an ideal place for
touring North Devon. Barnstaple is steeped in history
and the picture overleaf in Church Lane shows the
HORWOOD ALMSHOUSES with a school attached -
The Alice Horwood School which she endowed for
20 poor children for ever in 1659. There are other
Almhouses in Trinity Street and Litchdon Street erected
in the seventeenth century.
