The State Capitol of Mississippi is located in the city
of Jackson. The State has an area of 46,810 square miles,
and was admitted to the Union in 1817. The floral emblem
of the State is the magnolia. Mississippi takes its name
from the Mississippi River, an Indian word signifying the
"union of many streams."
