THE NAVY YARD, BROOKLYN, N. Y. On
the Brooklyn shore of the East River, just below the Beook-
lyn Bridge, is a natural circular basin, called Wallabout Bay,
which holds upon its south shore the principal naval station
of the United States. It contains 1:2 acres of ground, en-
closed by a high brick wall, within which are all the material
and facilities for naval construction. The U. 8. cob dock
lies in the bay and many ships of war are in evidence. Visit-
ing hours are 10 &. m. to 4 p. m., but the rules for admitting
visitors are strict. 270.
