FIRST CHURCH AND PARSONAGE,
DANVERS, MASS. This picturesque little church
and parsouage at Danvers Center were erected in 1891, on the
site which had held the meeting house since the year 1702. In
the spring following the coming of Governor Endicott, 1629,
the first church was organized, but it was not until 1634 that
the earliest meeting house was erected, and the church that
for more than two centuries dominated New England thought
and life was established at Salem. The sidewy oak timbers
of this ancient building, with modern roof and walls, still
remain. 231.
