Three sides of the base bear the following inscription: 1) To the memory of Indiana's first public school teacher, this monument is respectfully dedicated by the Rivet Chapter of Isabella, Vincennes, Indiana. 2-25-1944. 2) Sacred to the memory of Rev. Jean Francis Rivet V.G. Born at Grosmorne, Island of Martinique 1757; Died at Vincennes, Indiana. 3) I ask that I may be buried in the midst of the people confided to me. That is near the center of the cemetery. Names on small crosses surrounding the large cross are as follows: John Vachet, Richard Deem, Charles Bilskie, Robert Page, Ralph Wallem, Ralph Joice, James Schubers, Joseph E. Ostendorf, Thomas Fish
