“ BRITISH BIRDS AND THEIR EGGS.”
The Hoopoe (Upupa epops).—The Hoopre visits Britain
in the Spring and Autumn. It occasionally builds in this
country, but not often. Its nest is made in a hole, generally
in a tree, and the mother and young are fed by the male.
The eggs are four to seven in number, and when fresh laid
are pale greenish blue, but fade to a dull olive or yellowish
brown.
