is a native of Tropical South America. Social in habit.
small companies of these large, gaily tinted birds feed
amidst the branches of the forest trees, using their powerful
beaks to rip open the fruits and crush the hard-shelled
nuts upon which they feed. Their loud, harsh cries
resound through the forest glades, and they have a strong,
swift flight.
The importation into Great Britain of the plumage of this
bird is prohibited by Act of Parliament.
