Front:
THE POLAR BEAR.
The Polar Bear, one of the largest of the bear family, lives in the Arctic Regions and feeds
chiefly upon seals; its colour, matching the snow, enabling it to approach them unperceived as
they repose by the water's edge. The wide paws are adapted for swimming in the sea and wal king
on the snow, the soles being largely overgrown with hair to prevent slipping on the ice.
