The Stepping-Stones, Ambleside, are a number of
large stones used as a path over the River Duddon. After
rain it is impossible to walk across as the stones are covered
with water. This spot is extremely picturesque owing to
the magnificent woods and high mountains in the distance,
Wordsworth's poem, “The Stepping Stones,” describes
the place exactly.
