Citadel and Mahomet Ali Mosque.
The dome, with two slender minarets, of
this mosque forms one of the most striking
and picturesque features of Cairo and by its superb
situation it dominates everything for miles round
Its court is paved with white marble and its walls
have a dado of alabaster. The Citadel is an ancient
fortress said to have been founded by Saladin in
1166.
