Humming-Birds. (Trochili.)
Humming -Birds, of which there are many varieties, are
very small, and are remarkable for the brilliant colors of
their plumage. They are only found in tropical countries.
Their flight is so rapid, they dart to and fro so quickly,
that the eye can scarcely follow them, and when they stop
before a flower it is only for a few seconds. Now and
then they stay to rest, perching on leafless twigs; this
is the only opportunity of studying their beautéful plumage,
which cannot be seen whilst they are fluttering about.
