THE MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM, University of Virginia,
Charlottesville, Virginia. Given by alumni to honor
the dead of World War I, is the center for many
athletic activities and for physical training. Extensive
practice fields and tennis courts adjoin it. In the
rear, right, is Alumni Hall, and behind it Lewis
Mountain, named for Meriwether Lewis, the soldier
explorer who was born a few miles away.
