The State Capitol of New Jersey is located in the city
of Trenton, which figured prominently in one of General
Washington's campaigns during the Revolutionary War.
New Jersey-one of the original thirteen States—has an area
of 7,815 square miles, and instead of a State flower, has
adopted a tree—the sugar maple. The name New Jersey
was selected in 1664, in compliment to one of the original
proprietors, Sir George Carteret, who had defended the
Isle of Jersey during the Civil War in England.
