The Corwin or "Witch House, at the cor-
per of North and Essex Street, was standing in
part at least in 1675 when the chimneys were
taken down and the building remodeled.
In this house lived Jonathan Corwin, one of
the judges of the witcheraft court and here
some of the preliminary witchcraft examina-
tions were held. It yet retains the overhanging
second story but is greatly defaced by a modern
drug store. From this drug store it is possible
to pass through an arch in the great chimney
which is about 12 x 8 feet in dimensions at the
first floor
