THE OLD MULLAN ROAD was constructed (1859 -
1862) as a military supply route through this area
for 624 miles between end of navigation on the
Missouri and Fort Walla Walla. Mullan, pop. 1279,
elev. 2900', started as an early day mining camp
supply point for the surrounding Coeur d'Alene
Mining District. It is home of the famous Lucky
Friday Mine (producer of silver, lead, and zinc),
and the welcome mat for west bound travelers
through Montana via Lookout Pass, seen at upper
left.
