Originally established in 1805 as a fur trading post, Fort Nelson, located
at mile 300 (km 478) along the Alaska Highway is now a centre for
natural gas production, oilfield exploration, rail, river and air Traveltime
transportation, forest products and tourism. Facilities include recreation
centre, swimming pool, golf course and museum.
