SAINT LUCIA FESTIVAL IN LINDSBORG, KANSAS
Emily is participating in the Santa Lucia Festival which is
on December 13. The Swedish tradition features the
oldest daughter rising early in the morning, doning a
white robe and crimson sash. Emily is bringing ginger
cookies and coffee to the members of the household. The
tradition is from the legend of Lucia of Sicily (Italy) who
was martyred for her Christian faith. Centuries later she
brought food to Sweden during a famine. The name Lucia
is Latin for light.
