EXPLORER-THE AURORA. A sud-
den blaze of light, bluish green and
red softened into each other, illumines
the pitch darkness of the arctic night,
a pale lambent ray shoots upward to
the zenith, flickers a moment. then a
thin veil overspreads the heavens, dy-
ing slowly, mingling with the black-
ness (by contrast) of the polar ice.
'Tis gone! The return of the
sun February 19th after six months of
night was the signal for the dash.
