The Prairie Hare or White-tailed Jackrabbit in-
habits the Great Plains of central North America.
Unlike the black-tailed jackrabbits, this very distinct
species turns white in winter. Although called a jack-
rabbit, it is most closely related to the Arctic and
varying hares.
