The Friend of Man Series 9381 The St. Bernard. This is one of the largest breeds of dogs, standing as a rule from 27 to 30 inches high at the shoulder. It derives its name from the Hospice of St. Bernard in Switzerland, the monks of which have trained these dogs to roam over the mountains during stormy weather, carrying cordials for the benefit of any travellers who may have lost their way, and then to return to the monestary and guide the monks to their find |
